Termolegno – Drying

Artificial drying of wood (sawing or semi-finished) is a fundamental process for the industry of first processing and allows considerable advantages compared to a natural drying carried out to the air that we are going to present through a short path of “questions and answers”, FAQ style, that we hope you will find exhaustive.

Description

Bearing structure

Drying Aluminum alloy with a breaking load of 2,500 kg/cm2. The structure is designed to withstand a standard wind load of 120 km/h and a snow load of 160 kg/m2 (optional on request 250/320/450 Kg/m2).

Walls and roof

Box-shaped panels of aluminum-magnesium alloy sheet with a high resistance to oxidation and corrosion from tannin. Internally lined with fiberglass panel high density thickness 100 mm (optional 120 or 150 mm thick) and externally with corrugated and embossed aluminum. Design features which allow the total incombustibility and lack of hygroscopicity, ensuring, then, uniformity of operation up to temperatures of over 200°C.

Chimneys for air exchange

Made of stainless steel and aluminum, and distributed over the entire surface of the roof to allow perfect and homogeneous air exchange. Every single chimney is independent with servo motor for opening and closing function. The square dampers are constituted by rotating blades which, moving proportionally and automatically, ensure adequate ventilation.

Heating batteries

Drying The heating system of the installation can use either hot water at + 90/95°C, both water at + 115°C or steam. The selected heating fluid flows inside heat exchangers which are designed, manufactured and tested by Termolegno and made of stainless steel AISI 304 with aluminum fins.

Ventilation system

The ventilation in a conventional drying kiln is a crucial component to design and operate with precision. The air flow rate in the system is directly calculated according to the essence of wood to be dried. The system is composed of reversible and helical electric fans at one speed (or in the case of inverter at variable speed) with fans of axial type in cast aluminum and constant flow rate in two directions of rotation. Impeller with statically and dynamically balanced blades and conveyor and motor support in stainless steel. All engines are specifically designed for Termolegno and are class H, tropicalized, IP55 with side shields in cast iron for the bearing bracket and the central body of the engine in aluminum guaranteed to function in environments at high temperatures, particularly humid and corrosive.

Humidification

The humidification system with cold water nebulizers, both low and high pressure, allows moistening the surface of the wood when necessary so as to promote the opening of the pores of the wood and make possible a correct removal of free water (the most internal water of the boards of timber). The humidification in the cell is adjusted automatically and proportionally by appropriate electronic equipment.

Electronic control

Termolegno software allows supervision and centralized and/or remote control of drying cells, also connected together up to a maximum of 32 units. Through a control unit fully autonomous and independent, with a display with keyboard, you can monitor the progress of each phase, carry out all the necessary checks and set the process data. The software also enables the tele-assistance that Termolegno provides to its customers.
